ADVISORY: macOS 26 “Tahoe” Upgrade Hold

Dear macOS Users,

Apple has released macOS 26 “Tahoe”, the latest version of its operating system. While we’re excited about the new features and improvements it offers, please do not upgrade your college‑issued Mac at this time. Early upgrades can lead to software incompatibility, data issues, or functionality loss.

Currently, the only stable, supported versions are macOS 14 (Sonoma) and macOS 15 (Sequoia). The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is actively testing macOS Tahoe to ensure all college software and applications work properly before we approve it for deployment.

Additionally, Apple has ended support for macOS 13 “Ventura” and all earlier versions, meaning they no longer receive critical security updates. If your device is still running one of these older systems, it’s time to plan an upgrade to a supported release to remain secure and compliant. We’re aware that some college‑issued devices may not be eligible for new versions, and we’ll work with you to evaluate upgrade options.

OIT will collaborate with your department’s IT support team to review your system’s hardware and software needs and guide you through a smooth upgrade path once testing is complete. Working with our IT professionals is essential to avoid interruptions to your academic or administrative work and to keep the college’s data and network secure.

If you are currently experiencing issues with your macOS device, please contact the OIT Help Desk to schedule a consultation.

What You Should Do

  • Do not upgrade to macOS 26 “Tahoe” until OIT announces official approval.
  • If you are using macOS 13 or older, we’ll contact you as part of our upcoming upgrade plan.
  • Keep your current macOS and applications fully updated with available security patches.
  • If you use personal or specialized software, check with your vendor for Tahoe compatibility before upgrading—even on a personal Mac.

OIT will send another notice once macOS Tahoe is fully approved and will coordinate with your local IT staff on upgrade steps for systems running expired operating systems or obsolete hardware.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our campus technology reliable and secure.
