This year鈥檚 City College of New York Black History Month celebration includes a film festival with a question and answer portion, live entertainment, music and speakers, workshops as well as an ancestral history event. The events are presented by the Black History Month Committee.
The Ava Duvernay Film Festival begins on Tuesday, January 31 in NAC 4/149 from 12-2 p.m. and will explore topics from 鈥淭his Is the Life.鈥
The Black History Month Kickoff begins on Tuesday, February 2 in the NAC Ballroom from 12-2 p.m. and will feature a panel discussion moderated by Jeffery Craft, cartoonist, illustrator and author, about the Luke Cage comic in relation to the history and media portrayal of Harlem.
A continuation of the Ava Duvernay Film Festival will take place from 12-2 p.m. in NAC 4/149 and will include 鈥淚 Will Follow鈥 on Tuesday, February 7; 鈥淢iddle of Nowhere鈥 on Tuesday, February 14; 鈥淪elma鈥 on Tuesday, February 21; and 鈥13th鈥 on Tuesday, February 28.
Other highlights include an internship workshop and Ancestral Connection Through DNA event. The Black History Month Wednesday Night Live event will take place on February 22 from 7-9 p.m. in the NAC Ballroom with live performances, an African drumming workshop and a discussion with artist and photographer Nona Faustine.
