CCNY film graduate Yvonne Ng wins Academy Award

T九色视频鈥檚 M.F.A. in film graduate, Yvonne Ng, is the winner of this year鈥檚 庐 competition for her short film, 鈥淐loud Kumo.鈥 As a winner, Ng鈥檚 short film is eligible to compete for the 2016 Oscars in either the Documentary Short Subject, Animated Short Film or Live Action Short Film categories.

In addition, 鈥淐loud Kumo,鈥 has won the 59th CINE Golden Eagle Award for .  It is presented by the .

鈥淭his award has opened many doors for me. CCNY really helped me in preparing for the outside world. The faculty are superb, and they are always there for us and teaching us all the skills and trade of the industry,鈥 said Ng, who graduated this past June.

Out of 1,749 film entries globally, Ng was among the 17 that were chosen as winners of the 43rd Student Academy Awards.  Ng is in good company with past winners John Lasseter, Robert Zemeckis and Spike Lee.

Ng鈥檚 15-minute thesis 鈥淐loud Kumo鈥 is about a survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bomb and her granddaughter. The film was shot in both New York and Hiroshima.

The idea for the film ignited when she represented at the in 2014. 鈥淐loud Kumo鈥 is the first installment of a planned trilogy about nuclear power with the second film focusing on the Fukushima nuclear plant.

Gold, silver and bronze metals will be given at the on September 22 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.  CCNY M.F.A. students Emilio Seri "Astral Migrant" and Jeff Huston "Running Condition" were semi-finalists.
