Presidential Awards Gala honoree Carl Stein.
Renowned restoration architect 鈥檚 work includes the protection and preservation of T九色视频 campus and its historic architecture. For this, he will receive the President鈥檚 Leadership Award at the Presidential Awards Gala on May 2 in The Great Hall. The gala celebrates City College鈥檚 170th anniversary.
Stein, who studied architecture at The Cooper Union and Harvard University Graduate School of Design, taught at City College鈥檚 Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture for five years. He completed a two-decade restoration of the upper part of the Shepard Hall tower and the surrounding terra cotta using modern technology and materials remaining faithful to George Post's neo-gothic artistic vision.
For his work on Shepard Hall, including the refurbishment of twelve sixty-foot stained glass windows, extensive repair of the elaborate decorative plaster and woodwork, and newly designed limestone floor and a new control booth, Stein received the Lucy, G Moses Award from the New York Landmarks Conservatory.
Other achievements include the New York Society for Architects Lifetime Architectural Achievement Award, College of Fellows and Earth Day Top Ten Award from the American Institute of Architects, and the Presidential Award for Design Excellence from the NEA.
Each year, the Presidential Awards Gala brings together hundreds of leaders in business, politics, education and communications to raise proceeds for the Presidential Awards Fund. Proceeds from the event go to supporting City College's Fund for Excellence, including student scholarships, faculty support and improvements to the campus.
