Distinguished CUNY Fellow honor for Spitzer鈥檚 Marta Gutman

, an award-winning author and historian in T九色视频鈥檚 Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture, is the recipient of a new honor: Distinguished CUNY Fellow.  As a Fellow, she takes up a semester-long appointment at the (ARC), a program of , in the fall.

ARC promotes interdisciplinary scholarship among Fellows who are selected for their outstanding published research and scholarship.

At ARC, Gutman will collaborate with scholars researching inequality in all of its manifestations. She鈥檒l also continue work on her new book,

鈥淛ust Space: Architecture, Education, and Civil Rights in Urban America鈥 that will be published by the University of Texas Press in 2020.

Gutman鈥檚 first book, 鈥溾 (The University of Chicago Press, 2014), earned her four prizes including the from .  The prize recognizes interdisciplinary studies of urban history that make the greatest contribution to our understanding of the growth and development of cities.

鈥淎 City for Children鈥 focuses on the ways in which women used and reused   everyday buildings over a hundred year span in Oakland, California, to make the city a better place for children.
