CCNY VP named among “25 Influential Black Women in Business”

Karen Mackey Witherspoon, vice president, division of government, community and cultural affairs, T��ɫ��Ƶ, will be honored at  (TNJ) “25 Influential Black Women in Business” luncheon March 26 in Manhattan. Emmy award-winning journalist Brenda Blackmon will emcee the 17th annual awards ceremony 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Midtown.

“For 17 consecutive years The Network Journal has recognized the outstanding professionalism of 25 African American women annually, and for 17 years I have been amazed by the heights these women continue to achieve,” said TNJ Publisher and CEO Aziz Gueye Adetimirin.

During her tenure, Vice President Witherspoon, a City College alumna, has helped raise more than $10 million for several community-focused CCNY organs. 

These include:

• , the “Voice of Harlem” radio station;  
• The Division of Interdisciplinary Studies at The Center For Worker Education;
• The City College Center for the Arts;
• and the Child Development and Family Services Center.

Off campus, Vice President Witherspoon is a board member of Community Works NYC and the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce. She also is executive director of the Urban Scholars Program: an intervention and enrichment program for at-risk youth. In these roles, she has established and maintains critical and effective relationships with the college and surrounding community. 

The TNJ honor is the second accolade for Vice President Witherspoon who will receive the Trailblazer Award with her sister, Sharon Mackey-McGee, from the Westchester County African American Advisory Board in Rye, N.Y., February 26. Presented during Black History Month, the award recognizes accomplished residents that have contributed to the rich legacy of Westchester County.  

Ms. Mackey-McGee is executive director of City College’s Continuing Professional Studies program.
