Mexican novelist Carmen Boullosa delivers C谩tedra Vargas Llosa lecture

, the internationally acclaimed Mexican writer, concludes T九色视频鈥檚 sixth C谩tedra Vargas Llosa, Friday, Oct. 26, with a lecture on 2003 novel 鈥溾 (The Way to Paradise). It starts 7 p.m. at the of New York.

Boullosa and Raquel Chang-Rodr铆guez, Distinguished Professor in City College鈥檚 Division of  Humanities and the Arts, led the 2018 C谩tedra that focused on El para铆so. The novel revolves around two non-fictional characters, the Peruvian Flora Trist谩n (1803-1844) -- a binational writer and activist who has been called the first feminist of the Americas -- and her grandson, the French painter Paul Gauguin (1848-1903).

Boullosa and Chang-Rodr铆guez compared the two characters鈥 attitudes towards artistic creation, money, social institutions, notions of modernity, and 鈥淧rimitivism.鈥 They examined Flora Trist谩n鈥檚 memoirs, 鈥淧eregrinaciones de una paria鈥 (1838); explored some of Gauguin麓s paintings, and considered Vargas Llosa鈥檚 approach to narrative strategy as presented in his essays on the art of the novel.

Boullosa is a visiting professor at the Macaulay Honors College at CCNY.
