Tucum谩n Governor Juan Manzur hails CCNY ties

Evoking T九色视频鈥檚 legacy of access and opportunity, Dr. , governor of the Argentine province of Tucum谩n, paid homage to CUNY鈥檚 founding college on a visit to its Harlem campus.

Manzur, who sees education as key to developing his agricultural province of 1.8 million in the northwest, hailed City College, which has established extensive ties with Tucum谩n, as an inspiration.

鈥淎t this (college), they took in immigrants, they formed them and today, many of the men and women that went through this college are the men and women that made this country great,鈥 Manzur told the audience, including retired Congressman , CUNY Chancellor , and CCNY President Vincent Boudreau.

鈥淲e know the history quite well,鈥 he added. 鈥淲e know that you even have Nobel Prize winners. That鈥檚 why we are so proud to be here. It鈥檚 an historical day for us.鈥

  The (UNT), one of Argentina鈥檚 largest educational institutions with more than 60,000 students, is a major CCNY partner. Their ties cover:  

  •  Sustainable development, with particular focus on rural areas, including preparedness for the potential impacts of climate change through the CCNY-based ;
  •  Medical collaboration;
  • Entrepreneurship and innovation; and  
  • Planning and analysis of public policies for regional development.

Speaking in the context of these collaborations, Manzur said: 鈥淚 want the best for my people. I want them to study, to develop and [create] a society in the future that is diverse and educated."

President Boudreau, who led a CCNY delegation to Tucum谩n early this year to expand ties, noted that over the years, CCNY has assisted in the education of Tucum谩n鈥檚 teachers and engaged in the exchange of expertise between researchers and faculty.

He described Mazur as an 鈥渆xtraordinary governor,鈥 adding: 鈥淲e want to take this opportunity to celebrate our friendship.鈥

Manzur received the CCNY President鈥檚 Award at the event co-sponsored by the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at City College. 

Chancellor Rodr铆guez said CUNY would continue to support CCNY鈥檚  efforts to advance its collaborations with Tucum谩n and the Argentine nation.
