The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am by President Boudreau. He stated that he had no announcements and invited his Senior Staff to give their updates. SVP Mozeleski spoke on the May 28 Masters and PhD commencement ceremony, scheduled to take place at 1pm in the Great Hall. She requested that Cabinet members assist with volunteers for the event for tasks such as guest RSVPs and flow management, with Charles Thornton to be House Master for the day. The main commencement staffing is a joint venture between OIACER, Student Affairs and the Provost’s office.
Provost Liss discussed the CSOM transition which is currently underway. He expanded on concerns regarding the cost of maintaining campus facilities when CSOM moves off campus. The transition team is working on a master MOU that addresses these issues. There is an upcoming meeting with the Chancellor to discuss the progress of the CSOM transition. He also discussed the Sophie Davis curriculum and the potential transition of resources to the Graduate Center. Provost Liss emphasized the importance of maintaining Sophie Davis as part of City College management.
CFO Perez gave a presentation on the budget planning process for the upcoming fiscal year. The college aims to end the current year with a $1.2 million deficit, an improvement from previous projections. The new budget process aligns with accreditation standards, emphasizing inclusivity, transparency, and alignment with strategic goals. SVPs are working with their direct reports to complete budget templates that outline priorities, initiatives, and funding needs based on the strategic plan. The process is expected to be challenging but aims to balance departmental needs with overall financial goals and strategic priorities. The presentation also touched on enrollment projections, the focus on rebuilding faculty, and the need to improve transfer student enrollment. Future conversations will focus on transfer student initiatives and reviewing the progress of existing programs like the 1847 Academy.
President Boudreau invited all Cabinet members to participate in a risk assessment exercise. He presented three potential value clusters to guide decision-making: preserving the institution, protecting students and staff, and being a voice for justice. Group priorities seemed balanced across all three values, and President Boudreau steered the discussion toward potential college risks. The members discussed various potential risks, including financial, legal, and political challenges. They also considered the impact of external pressures and the potential for vigilantism. They also discussed the importance of maintaining academic freedom and the potential for opportunities to arise from their responses to the identified risks. President Boudreau emphasized the need for a dynamic approach to risk assessment, as conditions change. This discussion will continue in future meetings, with the goal of creating a comprehensive approach that can be clearly communicated to their community.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:55 am.
