The Malin lab is interested in the general mechanisms that build the nervous system. Using the Drosophila visual system as a model, we perform genetics experiments to understand how stem cells are patterned to produce neurons in the correct ratios. We also study how these neurons find their targets in the brain. We aim to create a supportive environment where scientists can think creatively and unearth fundamental principles that will shape our general understanding of how organisms develop.
