City College of New York M.F.A. in film graduate, Yvonne Ng, is the winner of this year鈥檚 competition for her short film, 鈥淐loud Kumo.鈥
Ng won the silver medal in the Alternative Category at the 2016 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif. She is the fourth Student Academy Award winner for the M.F.A. program in 10 years.
As a winner, Ng鈥檚 short film is eligible to compete for the 2016 Oscars庐 for either the Documentary Short Subject, Animated Short Film or Live Action Short Film categories. Out of 1,749 film entries globally, she was among the 17 that were chosen as winners of the 43rd Student Academy Awards庐.
Ng鈥檚 15-minute thesis 鈥淐loud Kumo鈥 is about a survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bomb and her granddaughter. The film was shot in both New York and Hiroshima, and is the first installment of a planned trilogy about nuclear power with the second film focusing on the Fukushima nuclear plant.
