For the second year running, T��ɫ��Ƶ is the recipient of four of the eight Jonas E. Salk Scholarships awarded by The City University of New York this year. The scholarships recognize exceptional students who plan careers in medicine and the biological sciences. As Salk Scholars, Marisol Cortés, Anika Nabila, Christopher Reid and Violeta Contreras Ramirez will each receive a stipend of $8,000 to be appropriated over three or four years of medical studies. A green project by an interdisciplinary team of City College of New York students is the winner of The United States Environmental Protection Agency’s fifth annual Campus RainWorks Challenge. Tasked with designing an innovative green infrastructure project that effectively manages stormwater runoff while benefitting the campus community and environment, the five-member City College team devised the “Castor Project.” The project got its name from the scientific term for the beaver (Castor canadesis), CCNY’s mascot. Research led by electrical engineering professor Ahmed Mohamed at T��ɫ��Ƶ could lead to a more energy efficient rail transit system as his group explores how to capture regenerative braking energy. T��ɫ��Ƶ’s School of Education and the CUNY School of Medicine at CCNY are recipients of a $50,000 grant from the West Harlem Development Corporation for The Growing Our Own Doctor’s Project. Teenage freshman Ana Naumovska, a Jewish Studies major with no previous film experience, carries T��ɫ��Ƶ banner in this year’s Tribeca Film Festival with her short “ So Help Me God.” The nearly six-minute experimental piece was accepted by the Tribeca Film Institute in its “Our City, My Story” category. It premieres on April 29.
