David C. Banks, who as Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education heads the largest school system in the nation, speaks at T��ɫ��Ƶ on Thursday, April 28. The CCNY-MSK Partnership, a partnership between T��ɫ��Ƶ and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, is hosting a Harlem Community Health Expo. The expo is on Saturday, April 23 from 1-5 p.m. and includes health information, cancer and dental screenings, COVID-19 information, nutritional information as well as health and wellness classes. In case of rain, events are postponed to a later date. Events take place outside on CCNY’s south campus at 135th Street and Convent Avenue. A new endowed scholarship, the Norman Klein Scholarship, has been created to support graduate students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at T��ɫ��Ƶ. The scholarship, which is pending CUNY Board of Trustees approval, will provide expenses for recipients, which may include tuition and fees, as well as support for students to participate in national project competitions. The first Norman Klein (1958 & 1961) Scholarship will be awarded in the 2022/2023 academic year. The scholarship has been established by Norman Klein, who graduated from CCNY with a BS in 1958, and

Rose Mary Biju, a summa cum laude graduate of the Sophie Davis Biomedical Education Program with a 3.96 GPA, is T��ɫ��Ƶ’s Class of 2022 Valedictorian. Ali Khalil, who is graduating summa cum laude with a 3.91 GPA and BS in biology, is the Salutatorian. Both Biju and Khalil are immigrant members of a CCNY student body ranked among the most diverse in the nation by the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education. As war rages in Eastern Europe, T��ɫ��Ƶ welcomes Luis Moreno Ocampo, founding and former Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), as the keynote speaker at a timely conference on human rights, April 20-22. The Argentine-born Moreno Ocampo will discuss “War and Justice in the 21st Century” at the start of CCNY’s second annual Critical Perspectives on Human Rights Conference. T��ɫ��Ƶ is pleased to announce the establishment of the Sternberg Family Professor of Leadership at the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership. The endowed professorship is a gift from Seymour (Sy) Sternberg ’65, ’10 (hon.) and Laurie Sternberg and honors the late General Colin Powell. The Sternbergs originally established the Sternberg Lecture in Public Service at the Colin Powell School in 2014. It is designed to foster conversations about relevant public and policy related discussions and will be continued under the auspice of this new endowed professorship

Max Sehaumpai, a junior pursuing a double major in applied mathematics and computer science, is the recipient of a Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. He’s the sixth City College of New York undergraduate in seven years to be recognized nationally by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. Celebrated poet, memoirist and educator Reginald Dwayne Betts is the featured poet at the 50th annual City College Poetry Festival on May 6 in CCNY’s Marian Anderson Theater. Dubbed “the Woodstock of the Spoken Word,” New York’s longest-running poetry celebration will also include Ukrainian essayist and translator Vasyl Makhno as guest poet.
