City College of New York’s Shepard Hall, a gothic revival masterpiece designed by the legendary George Browne Post more than a century ago, is the winner of a Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award from the New York Landmarks Conservancy. This is the second Moses Award for restoration work on the 111-year-old Harlem edifice, a national landmark. In 1997, The Great Hall, located on the second floor of Shepard Hall, received the honor. The latest accolade is in recognition of the exterior preservation of Shepard. Robert B. Darnell, MD, PhD, considered one of the world’s leaders in translational medical science, will be the speaker at T��ɫ��Ƶ’s annual Louis Levine-Gabriella de Beer Lecture in Genetics on March 21. Darnell, who is the Heilbrunn Professor and a Senior Attending Physician at The Rockefeller University, is also an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, as well as Founding Director and CEO Emeritus of the New York Genome Center. A century after Samuel Rudin left T��ɫ��Ƶ to become an iconic real estate builder, owner and philanthropist, his grandson returns to CCNY March 15 to honor his towering legacy. “ My Family, Our City, Celebrating the Legacy of Samuel Rudin,” is the title of William (Bill) Rudin’s Samuel Rudin Distinguished Visiting Scholar Lecture 5:30 p.m. in Shepard Hall, room 350.
